Weather advice by region
Bali
Bali is usually easiest to visit during the drier months, especially from May to October. June to September is often the most practical period for beaches, temples, rice terraces and outdoor activities.
The rainy season can still be enjoyable, but heavy showers may affect beach days, scooters, hiking and boat trips.
Java
Java, including Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung and Mount Bromo, is often more practical during the drier months from around May to October.
Rainy months can affect traffic, city visits, volcano viewpoints and long road journeys.
Lombok, Gili Islands and Flores
Lombok, the Gili Islands and Flores are often attractive from June to September, especially for beaches, snorkeling, diving and island routes.
If you plan boat transfers, Komodo trips or diving, check local sea conditions before booking fixed activities.
Sumatra
Sumatra is large and humid, with rainforest areas and regional differences. Rain is possible throughout the year, but some periods are wetter than others.
If you plan trekking, wildlife tours, volcanoes or remote travel, check local conditions carefully.
Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua
Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua have varied local climates and can be more complex to plan than Bali or Java.
For diving, rainforest travel, mountains or remote areas, use local forecasts and operator advice before confirming fixed dates.
